  1. Reviewers Guidelines

The Global Journal of Plant and Soil Sciences values the crucial role reviewers play in maintaining the integrity, quality, and credibility of the journal. Reviewers are expected to provide fair, impartial, and constructive assessments of submitted manuscripts, which is vital for maintaining high academic standards. The reviewer’s guidelines outline the responsibilities of reviewers and offer a clear framework for evaluating manuscripts.

Reviewers should first ensure that the manuscript aligns with the journal's focus on plant and soil sciences, assessing whether the topic is relevant, timely, and scientifically significant. They should evaluate the research methodology critically, ensuring that the methods are appropriate for the study's aims and that the conclusions are supported by the data. Any weaknesses or limitations in the methodology, data interpretation, or analysis should be highlighted.

In addition to scientific assessment, reviewers should ensure the manuscript meets ethical standards. This includes checking for plagiarism, proper citation practices, and the protection of human or animal rights. The guidelines also emphasize the importance of maintaining confidentiality. Reviewers should not discuss the manuscript with anyone or use any part of it for personal advantage.

The review process should be timely, with reviewers committing to providing their feedback within a reasonable period, typically 2–3 weeks. If reviewers are unable to complete their review within the time frame, they should inform the editorial team as soon as possible. The journal expects reviewers to offer constructive criticism, providing actionable suggestions for improvement and helping authors enhance the quality of their work.

Reviewers should not accept manuscripts with which they have conflicts of interest. If a potential conflict arises, reviewers should notify the journal and recuse themselves. This ensures that all decisions are made objectively and without bias. By adhering to these guidelines, reviewers contribute to the journal’s mission to advance knowledge in plant and soil sciences through transparent and rigorous evaluation.

2. Conflict of Interest and Financial Disclosures (specific to reviewers)

The integrity of the peer review process at the Global Journal of Plant and Soil Sciences depends on the transparency and objectivity of its reviewers. To ensure that all evaluations are unbiased and based solely on the scientific merit of the manuscript, the journal has a clear policy on conflict of interest (COI) and financial disclosures for its reviewers.

Reviewers must disclose any potential conflicts of interest before agreeing to review a manuscript. A conflict of interest exists when a reviewer has any personal, professional, or financial ties that could influence their judgment. This includes professional collaborations with the authors, financial stakes in the subject matter, or personal relationships that could affect impartiality. In cases where a reviewer has worked with the authors or is in direct competition with the authors’ research, these relationships must be disclosed.

Financial conflicts of interest, such as ownership stakes in companies that could be impacted by the research, must also be disclosed. Additionally, if a reviewer has received funding from organizations or individuals that could have a vested interest in the research, this must be declared. Full transparency about these factors ensures that the reviewer’s evaluation is unbiased and not influenced by external interests.

If a conflict of interest is identified, reviewers are expected to recuse themselves from the review process. The journal editorial team will then assign a different reviewer to handle the manuscript. This process protects the integrity of the review and publication process, ensuring that decisions are made solely on the quality and relevance of the research.

The Global Journal of Plant and Soil Sciences enforces these policies strictly. If conflicts of interest are discovered after the review is completed or the manuscript is published, the journal may retract the article or take other corrective measures to maintain the trust and credibility of the review process.

By following these guidelines, reviewers ensure that the peer review process remains transparent, ethical, and objective. This, in turn, upholds the journal's commitment to publishing high-quality, scientifically rigorous research in plant and soil sciences.
